To bring to life the special events programme at the American Club in Singapore I had a number of bespoke ‘costumes’ made, including The Yankee Doodler (who was my kid’s mascot – a giant yellow smiley face with Uncle Sam hat and big red shoes).
Over the years I begged, bribed and persuaded many of my fellow colleagues to dress up in my ‘fun’ costumes and help with the entertainment.
They got their own back though. When it came to my leaving do in 2000, they finally got me into the Yankee Doodler outfit and got me to do a range of challenges – including Aerobics, Tennis, Nappy Changing, and Cake Decorating. Thanks a lot guys!
